CoreAdvantageSM, is an independent safety and health consulting firm providing consulting services, training, and software technology tools related to safety and health management systems, culture and behavior-based approaches to safety management.

The core of our practice is helping clients get and stay VPP Star certified. 

CoreAdvantageSMwas founded in 2001 by Dr. Gerard Ryan, who brings to it a unique blend of technical and managerial knowledge and skills coupled with 36 years of experience in the occupational safety and health field.

Dr. Ryan spent 26 years inside OSHA as one of OSHA's premier experts on Safety & Health Management Systems, VPP, and S&H Culture change.  He is a receiptant of the prestigious Vice Presidential Hammer Award for his innovative VPP partnership and S&H culture work. He also received the U.S. Department of Labor’s Distinguished Career Service Award in addition to 5 Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement and Impact Awards.

Dr. Ryan began his professional career 36 years ago as an industrial hygienist for the Johns-Manville Corporation. After developing an acute appreciation for the plight of the American Worker, four years later he accepted a position with OSHA. During his 26 years with the agency he was a Compliance Officer, Industrial Hygiene Supervisor, Area Director, Assistant Regional Administrator and Acting Deputy Regional Administrator.

While at OSHA, he was responsible for a number of national projects including the ConAgra/UFCW Partnership and worked on the teams that created the two proposed OSHA Ergonomic Standards. He is a nationally recognized speaker and facilitator. His last official duty before leaving OSHA was serving as a U.S. Government Delegate to the European Union — U.S. Conference on Health and Safety at Work. Dr. Ryan left Government service in order to pursue his passion of working with organizations who aspire to excel at what they do. He firmly believes that worker safety and health is one of the most powerful motivators for creating incredible change in the workplace. The cornerstone of his work involves forging partnerships between management and labor. Through clarity of purpose, leadership, ownership and following through on commitments, positive change occurs and is sustained.
